Multilingual Hispanic Speech in California

The MuHSiC (Multilingual Hispanic Speech in California) project is a linguistically rich corpus of bilingual Spanish-English speech culled from sociolinguistic interviews and naturalistic conversations from speakers of diverse social profiles and regional origins throughout the state of California. Speech data were collected by undergraduate students trained by graduate students and the 3 faculty PIs. Conversations consist of familiar to interviewers, maximizing recording naturalness. Comprised of 600 70-minute recordings of California Spanish-English bilinguals, half in Spanish and half in English, this corpus provides an invaluable linguistic resource for language scholars interested in examining the phonology, phonetics, morphology, syntax, and lexicon of Spanish-English bilinguals in California.

The Multilingual Hispanic Speech in California Corpus has been made possible in part by a Multicampus Research Programs and Initiatives Grant (MRPI Grant M23PL5866) awarded to Mark Amengual, Ji Young Kim, and Justin Davidson.
