The MuHSiC (Multilingual Hispanic Speech) project is a robust and linguistically rich corpus of bilingual Spanish-English speech samples culled from sociolinguistic interviews and naturalistic conversations among speakers of diverse social profiles and regional origins throughout the state of California. Speech data were collected by a team of undergraduate students trained by graduate students and the 3 faculty PIs, specifically focusing on familiar acquaintances to maximize participants’ comfort and naturalness during the recording session. Comprised of 35-minute recordings in each of Spanish and English from California Spanish-English bilinguals, this corpus provides an invaluable linguistic resource for language scholars interested in examining the phonology, phonetics, morphology, syntax, and lexicon of Spanish-English bilinguals in California.
The Multilingual Hispanic Speech in California Corpus has been made possible in part by a Multicampus Research Programs and Initiatives Grant (MRPI Grant M23PL5866) awarded to Mark Amengual, Ji Young Kim, and Justin Davidson.
